Why Thomas Müller is one of the greatest ever? What makes him so special?
Some interesting facts and career timeline of our very own Raumdeuter [THREAD]
Likes, Retweets and Follows are thoroughly appreciated as usual🙏
Thomas Müller played for TSV Pähl youth from the age of 4.
He scored 160 goals in one season for Pähl and eventually Bayern came through to sign him.
He showed remarkable maturity for his age and the roots for present day Raumdeuter were planted before he even turned 10
By the age of 10, Thomas travelled to Munich. He made it through to Bayern Munich youth system and has been present here eversince.
From 2000, Müller came through the ranks before finishing runnerup in U19 Bundesliga in 2007
For 2007-08, he was promoted to Bayern II and his minutes were managed between U19 and Bayern II teams.
With Bayern II qualifying for 3. Liga, Thomas showed his instinct for goals and established himself as key player in the setup.
He scored 15 goals in 32 games in the third division and he made his debut in Bundesliga that season.
Jurgen Klinsmann did not give many opportunities despite the debut.
But Thomas continued his rich vein of form in third division
Thomas Müller will eternally be grateful for Louis van Gaal
The Dutch maestro came to Munich and created a system that Bayern thrives even today
And what's more impressive is that he backed Thomas Müller completely
Without van Gaal, Müller would have found it much harder
van Gaal publicly backed Müller which gave him immense confidence that he could succeed at the highest level
He played 52 matches for Bayern that season, which is his second highest for a season till date
He repaid faith with 19 goals and 16 assists and Germany had their new star
He went into 2010 world cup with lots of confidence and ended up being the golden boot winner at the age of 20.
Müller scored 5 goals and assisted three more
He was the top goal scorer and assist maker in the mega event
Unfortunately, he was suspended for the game against Spain in semis as Germany were ousted
Speaking about his WC campaign, "I basically got lucky, I hit form at just the right time"

Typical Muller statement ay! 😂
Humble and never takes credit for his own accolades
Müller continued his form for Bayern
He did not miss a single league game for 3 years
He was at the forefront of Bayern's attack as he used to complement Robben and striker by interchanging

Thomas was deployed in a variety of positions during this time and proved his versatility
He opened the scoring against Chelsea in 2012 Champions League final
Bayern lost the game on penalties after he was substituted
This was bitter defeat for both the team and Thomas.
Since Thomas was born and bred in Munich and Bayern throughout
Müller was used excellently by Jupp during 2012-13 as both Kroos and Robben missed parts of the season
He was deployed centrally or on right wing based on coach's requirements
He was versatile to make sure there is no drop in quality in first XI
His true potential was unlocked by Jupp during the treble season
He proved his doubters wrong by scoring 8 goals in UCL
His goals against Barcelona in 7-0 drubbing are still cherished by Bayern fans
Müller was expected not to flourish much under Pep Guardiola
Pep was purist and ball savvy manager and Müller is not a great passer who can pierce defenses with throughballs, neither can dribble past opponents
But he knows what he is best at, creating space
Pep helped Müller see game in a new dimension and helped him become even better in understanding the game

Needless to say, Thomas had his best years under Pep
His workrate increased to a whole new level and he opened up more spaces for Lewy and Robben in the final third.
He went in 2014 world cup with a plethora of Bayern players in starting lineup
The form of Bayern players and their ability to be confident in possession played dividends for the national team
Germany bossed their opponents in their route to World Cup glory in Brazil
He scored a hattrick against Portugal and opened scoring against Brazil in 7-1 rout
Thomas Müller was awarded the Silver Ball and Silver Boot in the mega event
He was the best attacking player for Germany
2014-16 were his best years for Germany as he scored 20 goals
One major drawback was Pep did not trust Müller in key games in Champions League
Perhaps his overdoing things came back to bite Bayern in the semis of the UCL each year
Although Müller expressed his frustration, he absolutely gave his everything for his Bayern each season
2015-16 is undoubtedly the best season for Mulller's goal scoring
Bayern were lacking width with both Robben and Ribery injured for most parts of the season
The attacking burden was mostly on Lewy and Thomas. And they did deliver in some style
Perhaps the origin of Müllerdowski took place during this season
The duo formed a telepathic connection and scored goals for fun
Thomas amassed 32 goals that season and scored an impressive 14 goals in Hinrunde (first half of Bundesliga)
Carlo Ancelotti came in but Müller had a goal drought for the first time in his career
He did not score for 999 minutes in Bundesliga but he was more of a provider to the goals
But after his highest goal scoring season, people expected more goals from him
Today's Thomas Müller was found during this season as he turned into an assist maker
Ancelotti brought in James Rodriguez and benched Müller in the initial phase of 2017-18 season
"Obviously my qualities are not entirely wanted. I don't know what the coach expects of me," Müller said when asked on why he is not getting starts
Soon after Ancelotti was sacked and Jupp Heynckes took charge on interim basis
The treble winning coach got the entire squad behind him and got Müller back into the starting lineup
Jupp managed both James and Thomas well and got the best from both the players
Müller came back to his best goal scoring prowess towards the end of the season
Both Thomas and Germany had a debacle at 2018 world cup.
To make matters worse for Müller, Kovac became head coach of Bayern
The Croatian was very thin on his tactics and had no idea on how to use Müller in his system
Müller's confidence hit low during this phase. This is perhaps the worst period in his career
He was also omitted from national team by a manager (you know who) as he wants to develop young talents
Kovac never had the dressing room as the players doubted his tactical prowess.
He was sacked after 19 months in charge. Flick became the head coach and the first thing he did was to put Müller back on.
Thomas was the key to Flick's system as he organized the press on the pitch
In fact, Flick went on to laud Müller as the coach on the pitch
Bayern hit new heights and went to win another treble. Müller never had outstanding passing or dribbling.
But he knows where his strengths and that's what makes him so special
For example, think of the pre-assist to UCL winner by Coman
Gnabry sent a pacey ball to the edge of the box. But Müller decided to cushion the ball to Kimmich who picked the perfect pass to Coman
Müller is not a normal player that you see everyday
The world might another great Messi in couple of decades but a player like Müller might come once in a century
His understanding to the game is better than any other player in football
He creates space for his fellow attackers and always changes the pattern of attacking play
Off the field, Müller is a huge influence in Bayern's dressing room
Even during his early years, Müller always was in the leadership group of Bayern
Munich's proud son is the only player in recent decades to play for single club from his city for his entire life. A fan favorite
Off the pitch, he is a great comedian with loads of humor
On the pitch, he is a fierce competitor.
The best part about him is that he always has a smile on his face at the end of the day.
He takes everything under his stride and move on to become a better player.
It would be criminal to end his international career like Low did
Thomas is the best German midfielder right now. Probably even the best attacking midfielder in the world
He still has lots to offer for both Bayern and die Mannschaft
