Also i read @OhTimehin tweet about marriage, cishet women & queer men a couple days ago & i remembered how that has been a discussion/ war on Rwandan twitter particularly for the same reason she was getting attacked. We’ve refused to accept a world where BOTH are possibilities
Literally @OhTimehin never said it was right- she’s simply pushing us to move beyond & question the WHY IT HAPPENS. she’s urging us to look at ways this world forces marginalized folks to survive rather than live.
Your reluctance to understanding this is literally part of why ITS HOMOPHOBIC. Bc you’re so invested in who’s wrong & punishing them as if the fuckin world doesnt already punish & kill queer folk daily. You’re all not invested in understanding the why which would help us all
Its the cishet women being garbage too. Using the “most marginalized/ disrespected...” weapon to victimize themselves & flee from accountability of the violence they cause & how they benefit from such a system of violence towards queer & trans folks.
In our community, queer men suffer. To access any kind of humanity & survive, marrying straight women is what they’re told to “prove themselves” I KNOW YALL HEARD THIS BC I BEEN IN SPACES WHERE YALL & YOUR AUNTIES SAY THIS.
To access survival- to literally have access to the bare minimum which is keep breathing- they do the marrying. Then your main concern isnt the conditions that lead to this happening but being brutal to those fighting to survive? DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?
Whats even more upsetting is some cishet women understanding this when you say it in terms of women surviving patriarchy but when you want to push them to think of homophobia & transphobia, its them calling you names. But you contest the homophobia you’re exhibiting.
Everyday community folks & scholars such as @OhTimehin come here to remind us what community means & offer us grace + tools to imagine a different world. Yall then turn around & start diaspora wars, attack her as a person just so bc you want to be feminists who’re homophobic?
Just say you’re homophobes & terfs with your chest & leave people in peace. Bc what i’ve learned from this is that we’re still so incredibly invested in carceral culture & when you are faced w/ those whose work is rooted in abolition- you dont know what to do.
