I will never forget the Western left’s apathy towards Hong Kong. The Western right was able to gain such a following there was because of how the Western left stayed silent. Every second I wonder if the Western left actually cares about Chinese people as it claims

Sometimes I wonder if the Western left only cares about China and Chinese people so that they could use them for their own ends. They rarely ever advocate for marginalized people in China or Chinese leftists/socialists. They only use China and Chinese people as a prop

Their silence on China before the US-China tensions got them to pretend like they cared was much more honest. And they would rather use China as a prop for their own fantasies and aims rather than stand in solidarity with marginalized people and socialists/leftists

And when they do pretend to care they have proven to side with fascists and right wingers rather than minorities, workers, and leftists. It’s actually worrying how many have duped themselves into following fascists and reactionaries just because they’re “anti-US”

I really have zero faith for the Western left on China. I would rather they shut up about it than advocate for a racist fascist capitalist imperialist state. It really pisses me off that the way they would rather listen to their own fantasies than to Chinese leftists

I don’t know what else to say here besides this. As the months go on, I just can’t help but notice the horrific regression in the Western left and I fear the real life consequences of it damaging potential opportunities for solidarity
