Sulaimana was linked to that armed robbery of Thyolo National Bank in November 1997. The state accused him that the guys who undertook the armed robbery, surveyed the bank few days before the robbery using Sulaimana's vehicle.
The state argued that Sulaimana must have been part of this syndicate for his car to be used in this operation .High Court was convinced by the state argument and slapped him with 10 years. But Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Richard Banda faulted this verdict and acquitted..
Sulaimana. The co-accused(late macholowe and......) went to jail as Sulaimana headed home. Treason cases against three governments. Kamuzu Banda, bakili Muluzi and Joyce Banda. He's an interesting character to be studied by history, law and political science students.
1. During Kamuzu era after he consolidated power in 1971 when he became Life President, Who would dare to topple Kamuzu militarily? And being a mere student for that matter leading a military coup attempt against Kamuzu?
2. And he leads another military coup attempt against Muluzi in 2001 who had freed him in 1994 from a sentence on similar similar crime to attempt to topple a government , gets acquitted because the state failed to present tangible evidence, and gets compensated handsomely
