What I hate most about the far right is their sentimental sanctimony while gleefully embracing a Jeffrey Dahmer approach toward the least powerful people on earth. If you’re gonna be a psycho serial killer, at least own that shit, don’t hide behind “it’s all for family values!”

The fucking incredible gall to claim they are fighting for freedom as they fantasize about massacring people who actually are.

It’s also wild how even as Hitler, Mussolini, Franco et al are still regarded somewhat skittishly, Pinochet is just openly, enthusiastically embraced. Again these are people who weep crocodile tears for liberty celebrating a man who annihilated a century-old democracy overnight.

And it’s not just the fringe types either. I remember Jonah Goldberg - yes the one who later wrote “Liberal Fascism” - endorsing Pinochet’s coup in the early 2000s.

They all use the same rhetorical trick: Chile “would have” become, under Allende (the guy who didn’t even want to arm his supporters), what it did become by Pinochet supposedly preventing that. I don’t know why they insist on doing this transparently disingenuous dance.
