The reasons why your anti-MX7 tweets don’t make sense. A thread
Meet the solo stars of 2020. The biggest international successes have come from soloists who are also in groups. Baekhyun and Taemin are in 2 groups in fact! They sell so well because the group promotes solo material and vice versa
Senior Idol culture.
In the final year before enlistment male idols are considered seniors and they spend this time solidifying their reputation. This is why you see them getting praised a lot more by younger stars, talking about their back catalogue on TV +
and showcasing their top skills. This is their lap of honour, makes a post-military comeback easier and gives the idol his due status in the industry.
SSE’s move to separate Wonho from his prior work prevents him from doing what his senior peers are doing. +
When they’re out they don’t come back.
This was a good argument against MX7 until Wonho actually DID return to the industry, even working for the same umbrella company as he did before. This was unprecedented. At this point we can’t compare his path to +
anyone else. He’s in uncharted territory. Where his career will go from here is anyone’s guess.
“Wonho doesn’t need to be in MX”
This is in fact true! But only true in the same way as “No one -needs- tons of money”, “no one -needs- to be super successful”. Money and success and peer recognition are nice! Let him have it! Why not?
Why does #taemin do stuff with SuperM and SHINee? He doesn’t need to. But he does. And literally no one is complaining
“Wonho doesn’t want to be in MX”
This is a massive assumption largely based on his comment about being happy with his solo career. But every Kpop artist talks about being happy with their solo career. It’s not usually interpreted as a dis against their group
