Some sad Peruvian history:
The little girl's sign reads "Antero, I am the llama you couldn't burn in Bagua"

Who is Antero? What is Bagua?

In 2009, Peruvian forces murdered Native people holding a blockade to prevent a US transnational company from invaded their land
This particular area was protected by treaties as sovereign land, however because Peru and the US organized a free trade deal, the Peruvian government decided they would extract resources from the Amazon and allow in transnational companies to exploit the area
Asociación Interétnica de Desarrollo de la Selva is a coalition of Native communities in the jungle (Amazon) that protested the government's decision. The police retaliated against the protests by shooting at the blockaders, murdering at least 33 Native people and wounding 150
Even after the massacre, the government (then headed by APRISTA Alan Garcia) refused to work with the protestors. Instead, they started persecuting their leaders. Alberto Pizango Chota was able to get asylum by the socialist Nicaraguan government.
Those responsible have yet to meet justice like Antero Flores Aráoz who is the CURRENT prime minister, getting his position through a congressional coup. Then we have Luciana León Romero who is a current congress woman that was complicit in the bribery of transnational companies
The fact that Peru's government remains hostile to Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua claiming they are dictators while the orchestrators of massacres, repression, poverty, bribery, fraud, and attack on journalists remain in power is a fucking joke.
