The most tedious Left discourse is when someone says something anodyne like "building support for socialism is not going to be accomplished by telling apolitical working people to read Kropotkin" or whatever and someone responds "wow... so you're saying poor people can't read?"
The fact of the matter is that "socialism"/social-democracy/redistributionist politics/whatever you want to call it obviously does not currently possess the degree of support it needs from the groups of people who would be most sympathetic to it in America.
I'm using "groups of people" instead of "working-class" because I have no interest in engaging in circular discourse about what constitutes the "working class" or not. I am referring to people who would most stand to benefit from redistributionist politics, however defined.
This post was inspired today by the incessant whining and dishonesty in the response to this pretty anodyne post. Most replies are from pedants trying to pretend this person is implying that leftists can't be working-class or whatever lol.
I really don't know what to tell people! Leftism as a political force in the United States clearly is not (yet!) seeing levels of support from those who would most stand to gain from leftist policies needed for a governing majority at the national level...
...let alone an armed revolution or whatever lol. Saying that building support for leftism among apolitical people who would stand to gain from our policies won't come (primarily, even) from disseminating 19th century literature constitutes "classism" is goofy.
