One underrated war in modern Somali military history that gets overlooked is the 1964 Somali-Ethiopian border war.
The war was important for many reasons:

a. It was the 1st war Somalia engaged in post-independence which it gained only a few short years back.

1/
b. It was the 1st "baptism of fire" for the Somali military which was only established just some years prior to independence.

c. Despite being outnumbered Somalia was able to hold its own agains the numerically larger forces of the then Ethiopian Empire.

2/
d. It was the start of the modern Anti-Ethiopian insurgency in Somali Galbeed.{Left Photo}

e. It cemented the popularity of famous figures within the Somali Armed Forces namely General Daud Abdulle Hersi(AUN){Right Photo}

3/
f. It led Ethiopia and Kenya to sign a military defence pact thus aligning(for the most part) the two countries policies on Somalia for decades that came after.

4/ End
