I'm seeing all these tweets about salaries and I understand the frustration but I discovered something rather late in life. Employers are concerned with the work not the people. Employees should be concerned with maximizing their time and intellect to make money. (cont'd)
Once I understood everything is a means to income, I stopped being angry at employers for not paying me enough to
a) buy a house
b) buy a car
c) enjoy experiences
I saw my job as ONE way to pay bills. I stopped caring about "appreciation" "people first" "like a family"

Of course some organizations pay well and treat their staff well. That is the exception and not the rule. You'll save yourself heartache if you don't expect that everywhere. Side hustles will help you save

Do something else so you're not dependent on one employer. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for that. If this pandemic has taught me anything, it's that we all need a back up. Working with govt is safer (maybe) but I'm seeing a lot of 1 and 2 year contracts
Let me add this to the thread. Seeing a co-worker working until two weeks before her death (most didn't know she was so sick) and never get to have a retirement put things into perspective. After a terse announcement & zoom funeral a week later, nobody mentions her. Not one boss.
So live for yourselves and your family. Make them a priority and while that may mean earning a dollar, just know that after the tribute or water-cooler chartings, you WILL be replaced & everyone moves on without you in the office. So make extra money elsewhere.
