Sorry, what is Diane's specific complaint against @SonjaSantelises? That she has insisted on rigorous, quality, culturally relevant curricula for poor kids of color? That she has a track record of helping students succeed? https://www.baltimorecityschools.org/node/999 1/5
Apparently it's disqualifying to have worked for @EdTrust, an organization that works to close racial achievement gaps? And it's outrageous to have provided professional development to young people teaching in low income schools via @TeachForAmerica ?
Maybe she's one of those dreaded charter school advocates? Actually @rweingarten has been more involved in charters that Dr. Santelises. Maybe she is one of those harsh discipline/"no excuses" fans? Nope: she has promoted restorative practices.
Good lord. We're talking about a brilliant Black woman with multiple degrees who gave up other opportunities in life to work on behalf of students of color. In my experience she an impressive and thoughtful leader. If nothing else, she deserves our respect and appreciation.
We are facing an educational crisis of epic proportions. This is no time for ad homina garbage. We need to have a serious discussion about who has the vision, crisis management experience, and deep knowledge and commitment to racial equity to be Education Secretary in 2021.
