I've seen a few posts about how Nightfallen should have been the playable race instead of Nightborne, and I respectfully disagree. While I will concede that the Nightfallen storyline was way more interesting then what the Nightborne are currently up to. (long thread...)
I think the reason the Nightfallen were so compelling is because you find these characters at their lowest points, scarred and struggling to survive amongst the ruins of their civilization and succumbing to addiction, only to help them to find their way again and heal themselves
The Suramar storyline is one of the longest in the games, and has one of the best narrative payoffs imo. Maybe people think they got off easy with the Arcan'dor, but I liked the quest lines message of first finding balance with nature and self healing....
....Only after this were the Nightfallen able to return to Suramar and restore order
Had they remained Nightfallen I doubt I would be as interested in the race, only to see them forever cast as edgy mana junkies.

I prefer the version of this race that struggled, put themselves back together, and came out the other side better for it.
That being said, some permanent scarring from withering and such would be very welcome as character customization options
