Thread: I have the pleasure of working in an amazing community of folks who helped make our "newly online" counterterrorism course a great experience, stretching me in many ways but also helping our students learn some complicated topics. Thanks to the following:
@YVeilleuxLepage talked to us on "How Terrorism Evolves" based on his new book and his research https://www.amazon.com/How-Terror-Evolves-Emergence-Techniques/dp/1786608782
General (R) Terry Wolff was gracious enough to tell us about the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIL, where he served as the Deputy Presidential Envoy for two years. This is a great topic for further research on solving collective problems with some clear best practices.
@haroro_ingram talked counter-propaganda off two of his articles we read which I highly recommend: "Persuade or Perish" @gwupoe and "The Linkage Based Approach to Combating Militant Islamist Propaganda" @ICCT_TheHague https://icct.nl/app/uploads/2017/04/ICCT-Ingram-The-Strategic-Logic-of-the-Linkage-Based-Approach.pdf https://extremism.gwu.edu/sites/g/files/zaxdzs2191/f/Ingram%20Persuade%20or%20Perish.pdf
@DinaHussein with @Facebook shared her incredible knowledge of the struggle to monitor and remove extremist content from online platforms, and the tradeoffs between rights and privacy and public safety. She does amazing work and her engagement with community is a best practice
and finally, my friend @reed_alastair from @SwanseaUni took on the very complex topic of Reducing Terror and Countering Violent Extremism, introducing students to the @resolvenet and his work with @GNET_research. Grateful to all who pitched in for the benefit of students. //End
