/6 This video has been uploaded for the second time as it was reported by many Azerbaijanis as misleading. Meanwhile, it reveals the truth about the legitimacy of Artsakh as a state and the importance of its recognition by other states.
/6 According to “Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States” the state as a person of international law should possess 4 criteria: a) a permanent population b) a defined territory c) a government d) a capacity to enter into relations w/other states
/6 In fact, Artsakh has fulfilled all of the above-mentioned criteria which means that, despite not being recognised by other states, Artsakh is a “de-facto state” according to international law.
/6 Azerbaijan’s claim of violated territorial integrity in the case of Artsakh does not have a legal basis as NK Autonomous Region has proclaimed its independence in Dec. 1991 through Referendum based on the Soviet Constitution and has never been part of Independent Azerbaijan.
/6 Thus Artsakh’s independence is legal and now, more than ever, its recognition is a priority as the people of Artsakh are under existential threat. Azerbaijan with the support of Turkey has committed multiple war crimes killing civilians, destroying hospitals and schools.
/6 People of Artsakh have the right of self-determination. Now, it’s the responsibility of each one of us to push our leaders to #RecognizeArtsakh. If not thousands of lives are under danger of yet another genocide.
