So Help Me God-SWISH-Waves-The Life Of Pablo

The confusing rollout of Kanye’s 7th studio outline.

Here’s the complete timeline.
Yeezus 2

For about a year after Yeezus dropped, the going theory was that Kanye’s next album would be a direct sequel to Yeezus. This theory was mainly fueled by Rick Rubin, who spoke on all the leftover material from Yeezus, and how that may become its own album.
Brand New Ye (July 2014)

Kanye does a GQ interview where he reveals what his new album would be like, and when we’d be getting it. He talks about how beautiful the music he’s making is, and how we may see it as soon as September 2014.
Only One

The first track that may have been on SHMG came in December of 2014. Kanye released the single, Only One, featuring Paul McCartney. The two, alongside various artists, recorded upwards of 9 songs during these sessions.
FourFiveSeconds

In January of 2015, Rihanna’s single FourFiveSeconds released. It’s notable because Kanye has stated that the song was originally his and meant for his next album.
Wolves (Feb. 2015)

At Kanye’s first fashion show, Yeezy Season 1, he debuted Wolves. A slide was shown before the song, stating it was track #1 on Kanye’s new album.
All Day

After previewing his single near the end of February, Kanye officially drops All Day and announces his next album will be titled So Help Me God on Twitter, with an accompanying album cover.
First Tracklist

Sometime around early 2015, a picture of Kanye sitting in front of a whiteboard began to circulate. It appeared to be a tracklist, with notable songs being God Level, Wolves, Nina Chop, All Day, and Only One. This could have been the first draft of SHMG.

Waves (Jan 2016)

At the end of the month, Kanye announces yet another album name change- this time revealing his 7th album will be called Waves. Here’s a tracklist around this time indicating the change.
So Help Me God Returns

For a brief moment, Kanye considered changing the title back to So Help Me God. Kim posted a Twitter poll asking people to vote on what they wanted the album to be called, with SHMG winning by a decent margin.
Ultra/Ye-Ye/Chiraq

Interesting to note, Ultra, Ye-Ye, and Chiraq were title ideas thrown around by Kanye at some point in the albums life span. Ye-Ye was shown on some art concepts made for the All Day CDs. Chiraq was also revealed through scrapped art concepts.
The Riddle (Feb)

Yet another album name change, this time Kanye left it up to fans to guess what it was. After tweeting the abbreviation and promising rewards for whoever got it right, one fan figured it out in just 17 minutes. Kanye then revealed the final name and tracklist.
Madison Square Garden

Days later, Kanye played his new album for the first time at MSG. Waves was left off the album, but thanks to Chance The Rapper, the album was delayed very shortly to get it back on the track list.
The Release

Almost a year after So Help Me God’s announcement, Kanye finally releases his 7th studio album, The Life Of Pablo on February 14, 2016.
Living, Breathing Album

Following the release of TLOP, Kanye announced the album would go through numerous changes. We’d eventually get multiple song fixes, and most notably, the addition of Saint Pablo as the closing track.
