I know I am #latetotheparty but I watched the first three episodes of the new Educating Greater Manchester series last night and this morning and I was dumbfounded by some of the stuff going on. I know it was in 2018 and the school has changed now but WOW.

Firstly, in what world is that level of low level disruption ignored quite so much??? Children need boundaries and sanctions. Bloody Nora.
And when did it become the done thing to ask CHILDREN to play detective and find out who brought a knife into school? Get a team together and do it yourself.
And then when you have had no luck and decide to do a bag search, would you really do it smack bang in the middle of the corridor so everyone knows what is happening and can warn others?????? WTF?
And when you’ve found the child, just have a chat about it. Did he get an internal? I can’t remember. I was too busy being shocked by it all. No exclusion though? Really?
Don’t even get me started on the way the snack selling was dealt with. If it is that much of a problem, deal with it properly.

THEN THERE ARE THE MEMBERS OF STAFF WHO STOPPED THE LESSON TO TAKE SELFIES ON THEIR PHONES OF THEM WITH A BUNNY AS THE CHILD SAID “I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO LET ANYONE ELSE HAVE HER”
I’m still not over the staff taking selfies. Wtaf?
Like did they just say “Hold on kids, I just need to find the perfect angle of me and Tinkerbell the bunny. You don’t mind waiting, do you?” or did they just whip their phones out and completely ignore the kids and their jobs?

If you were walking around school and saw a pupil vacuuming a classroom, do you think you’d want to know why that pupil wasn’t in their lesson and was instead cleaning???

And then there’s the issue with the headphones. If you’re going to crack down on headphones in school then maybe give sanctions for pupils wearing headphones? Don’t put on a badly done skit with yet another child who’s in on it and CUT them off and start dangling them around.
Can we also talk about how mental it was that a student was teaching a Y7 french lesson and that her behaviour management was actually better than anything we’d seen thus far???

Oh my goodness and then there were the interactive babies. I’d be fuming if I were a pupil and another kid turned up to my lesson with a fake baby that wouldn’t stop crying. This is supposed to be a safe place for students to learn
I’m sure I’ve forgotten some stuff. I can’t believe this is actually being shown on tv. I hope the public don’t think this is how schools work. @amymayforrester has assured me it isn’t indicative of all secondaries.
