I think it would be helpful to remember the Republicans who have supported the president’s desire to use frivolous lawsuits and (they hoped) friendly courts to overturn the results of the election. https://twitter.com/saletan/status/1327649658647273472
The effort is pathetic mostly because the election wasn’t close. But it’s pretty clear what the plan was: hope it came down to a single state, with a close vote; then dispute enough ballots (mail-in in particular) to swing it.
Meanwhile, ramp up the appearance of public anger at the election being "stolen" from Trump, and make it feel difficult for anyone to rule in an adverse manner.
What folks who suggest there’s nothing nefarious about this miss is the entire thing was concocted. They polarized mail-in, which would make tossing them especially beneficial; Rs forced PA to wait until ED to count mail-in, then alleged conspiracy as they were counted after;…
they appear to have targeted USPS; Rs waited until ED to dispute COVID-related voting changes in court; and they flooded courts with invented allegations of fraud. Meanwhile, they had an astroturfed "stop the steal" online campaign ready to go, along with plans to…
bring Trump supporters into the streets. If the election had been closer, it still might not have broke his way. But it could have, and the likelihood of confrontations in the streets would have been much higher.
