Sweden and the scapegoating of immigrants. THREAD:

Worst of all from my perspective as an immigrant rights advocate, the Swedish authorities are allowing their surrogates to engage in the timeless trope of scapegoating immigrants for spreading disease. Having seen Trump do it here before and during the pandemic,

The Swedish strategy was always meant for the privileged who can work from home. So it ignored lower income workers of color who commuted using public transport, worked in high contact jobs, lived in multi-generation households or high density housing etc. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-18926-3
And now with the second wave - and as other countries like Norway & Finland are doing better - the Swedish authorities need an explanation, a scapegoat even. In addition to passing the buck to local authorities (sound familiar?), the infected workers. Shameless victim-blaming.
