here is a thread of things that have happened in my school this school year
a teacher quit and just didn't come back after fall break. we still don't have a replacement so the title i reading teacher is subbing in that class, meaning kids aren't getting additional reading instruction they need
multiple kids and teachers/staff have tested positive for covid
the kitchen staff and a few teachers always wear their masks around their chins
a teacher complained to the principal about other staff wearing black lives matter shirts and masks. luckily the principal did not make them stop wearing it
my coworker who just came out as nonbinary this year consistently gets purposefully misgendered by some teachers. i only get misgendered by one coworker consistently but not maliciously like my friend does
there are five staff in my classroom, we're supposed to have six but we've been understaffed the entire year and a half i've worked here. one staff is currently quarantining due to close contact so we're barely scraping by with keeping kids safe and happy, let alone learning
if my grandpa dies i won't feel able to take any time off because we're already so short staffed with no possibility of subs, we never get subs in our class bc they're always prioritized to classroom teachers
yesterday there were 4 classroom teachers gone, so they had the art teacher subbing, and a brand new para who is still shadowing and had never worked in a school before thrown into a classroom to be a sub
anyway advocate for the teachers in your community
OH and there was a sixth grader walking the hallways making threats to other students and teachers yesterday
