Ovarian cysts? Are they something to worry about or not?

[A thread]
An ovarian cyst is a fluid filled sac tat develops in the ovary. It usually grows and goes away on its own, however it may grow bigger and not resolve on its own.
These cysts may be malignant (cancerous) or benign (none cancerous). Age is an important determining factor here and different ovarian cancers are more likely at different age groups.
Usually an ultrasound scan will give a good idea of whether the cyst is likely cancerous or not and in most instances it's not.
However even the benign cysts can be problematic where they either bleed (haemorrhagic cysts) or they twist on themselves (torsion). These will give quite severe pain and an urgen surgery may be indicated.
Generally speaking, you really don't need to be too worried about them unless your Dr indicates a cause of concern. Not all cysts require surgery although the really big ones or thise with solid structures will need surgery.
Again, not something to be alarmed about if you don't have symptoms of, but your Dr should be able to give a bit of info about it if you're diagnosed with them
