With Doug depends on the situation?
Rob was similar. I worked 30 feet away from him off the same hallway for 2 years. I knew him on a basic level? I only saw "good" Rob: soft, gentle, kind, sweet, caring.
The Rob in chambers or in front of a camera was not the same person. https://twitter.com/JoanEadie/status/1327646754884423682

Every single time I was in his presence or talking to him on the phone (Rob would call our office to report complaints from our constituents)...he was "Good" Rob.
VERY kind and soft.
It was shocking to see how rapidly he transformed into something else - a bully - on TV.

It wasn't just TV obv...but those were the only times I visibly saw and heard the other Rob in the entire 2 years we existed in the same space sharing the same washroom.
Most of the staff working of that hallway were openly gay. He was warm with us. I didn't detect any hate.

It was - as it literally happened one day - "hey buddy how are ya?
" and seconds later we were watching Council on TV at our desks and.... homophobic diatribe!
That's not the Rob who chatted with me 30 seconds before!
It sounds like Doug has similar issues.

But they're always the same person.
Your senses decide who they are based on what you want them to be.
They're never quite as "evil" as they seems sometimes, but also never quite as "good or decent" as you think they are when they behave okayish.
Humans are complicated.
