This was what made me look good this week with the Summit (obviously with the lens cap removed). An Elgato Cam Link made it really easy.
I used the manual focus setting and made sure I didn’t move too much from my mark while talking to the audience. Autofocus was way too unpredictable.
I used an Elgato ring light as well, which I also used when I did the Speaker Idol panel. With the panel I used my regular laptop and webcam because I didn’t need the full streaming setup.
For audio I used a Blue Yeti USB mic which is almost ten years old now, and the gain high so that I could sit further away. On macOS I installed Krisp (thanks @cl), and I was beta testing a new version which is a lot more effective at blocking non-vocal sounds.
The Elgato Stream Deck saved me on Tuesday because I was able to navigate my scenes on OBS when the keyboard and mouse stopped working (which I think was a Bluetooth range issue). I switched to camera view and spoke to my attendees instead of showing me struggle with the demos.
I also configured Stream Deck to navigate PowerPoint, which I used exclusively for the DBA talk yesterday. No mouse or keyboard during the actual session.
