*Thread* - Transform Weakness into Strength

Just answer these 2 questions 👇🏼
To be honest

There's a low probability of overcoming certain lifelong weaknesses

Weaknesses are often strengths playing the wrong position

Ask: "What is this behavior doing for me?"
All things have trade off's

Mind/body is incredibly intelligent

Adaptations & tendencies serve you in some way

Example: Lack of Commitment

"What is this behavior doing for me?"
- Gives you control

Not putting trust into a person or cause means you stay in full control

- More freedom

No obligations

- Less worry

No expectation to meet, no risk of losing something when you care about nothing
Next we identify the trade-off

"What is this costing me?"

- Lack of certainty

Never building in a direction, with people, with anything. Everything feels temporary & uncertain

- Lack of deep connections

Always keeping distance to maintain control & not risk being hurt
- Lack of results

Never allowing time for what you sow to grow & be reaped

^ there's a general few points for our example

Leaning too far in the other direction would be over commitment (neediness)

Which we also don't want, it has it's own problems

To restore balance.....
1) Keep the current behaviors

2) While consciously incorporating some out of character ones

Revealed in the "what is this costing me question"

3) Put self in a aligned position
We grow our character by doing things out of character

Darkness is just the absence of light

You don't need to 'fix' the darkness

Create/Add in the new light behaviors

To bring back the balance

Too much in either direction is either blinding light or pitch black darkness
Playing in Position

Lacking commitment is actually a stronger ability to handle uncertainty

They do well in roles that:

- Schedule 90% in their control

- Project to project type work, no long term commitments
- No customers, product delivery, operations to run

- Partial flexible commitment
For them it's a perfect balance of it's not entirely on them because then they won't commit

But the client is also not 100% in control of their schedule either
In Short:

Playing a position aligned to default tendencies

While working to incorporate new habits to restore balance

Is much more effective than wrestling with your default tendencies

Trying to solve them and do things that are just not for you
Place a monkey in the ocean & a fish in a tree
Both will behave neurotically

"Know thyself"

Discipline, Willpower, Work Ethic

It's great. Everyone talks about it

but you free up bandwidth to take on discomfort
When your default is low in discomfort

aka playing your position
So try this for yourself

Ask those two questions when looking at your tendencies

"What is this doing for me?"

"What is this costing me?"

Thank you for reading,

Cheers 🥂
