Not sure who needs to hear this but the Obama admin did NOT practice family separations at the southern border.

The crisis then was completely different: unprecedented numbers of unattended minors showing up alone or with "coyotes" at the border.

The administration's normal process for handling unattended minors (finding family in the USA and getting the minor to them) was completely overwhelmed and children ended up being held by the government for longer periods than usual.

Many of the facilities where children have been held by the Trump admin were, yes, first set up by the Obama admin… because they needed someplace to hold the children until family could be found, which due to the backlog took weeks/months.

The Trump admin repurposed these facilities, which were starting to close because the unattended minor crisis was tailing off, to hold children who were taken from their families are the border.
