this is literal nonsense and propaganda.
it's also very possibly medical malpractice.
the idea that a patient healthy enough to tell you this needs to be intubated is ridiculous.
this "vent early, vent hard" strategy was a massive killer of patients.
it's disastrously wrong. https://twitter.com/MPRnews/status/1327618296032669696

i do not know who this nurse is, but she's a liar or a fool. probably both. the move from early, aggressive venting to proning and O2 has saved an enormous number of lives.
was just talking about this the other day. https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1327010198662373376?s=20

but this is NOT new news.
certain internet felines (and a great many of the smart physicians) had figured this out back in april.
this is not a perfect measure, but it's close enough and bolstered by reports from many physicians to whom i've spoken. https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1253491004868444160?s=20

medical science and treatment has no place for the sort of fear mongering propaganda in the MPR article.
it's as despicable as it is harmful.
if you dig around you can always find a poorly calibrated doctor or nurse having a freak out.
that does not make it real.

remember the docs in TX talking about wanting to cry because they had to decide who to send home to die?
it wasn't even true. it never even happened
it was folks having a melt down from too much fear narrative and narcissism and the media amplifying it http://cbsnews.com/news/starr-county-only-hospital-forced-to-choose-who-is-sent-home-to-die-as-icu-beds-reach-capacity/

the folks who ran the texas hospitals came out and said it was a false narrative, that this was not that unusual, and that they would be fine.
spoiler alert: they were right. https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1276583838567653376?s=20

the same was true in florida. the media has been a disgrace on covid.
their flat out fake news and hysterical mis-reporting to push fear because fear sells has been beneath contempt.
