Today is #WorldDiabetesDay and it celebrates the birth of Dr. Frederick Banting, one of the researchers who discovered how to make insulin usable in humans.

I will always be grateful to Dr. Banting and Best for their work that keeps me alive.
So I am celebrating by being grateful for insulin pump technology. It & other things have made it possible 4 me to lower the upper limit of my goal range to 135 mg/dL.

Thing is, my Medtronic 670G pump crapped out last night.
Blessedly, it was time to change my sensor anyway, so a new sensor wasn’t wasted. But going back on MDI, even for less than 24 hours, is hard on my body.

Not sure the Lantus I took last night worked.

I miss my pump. I miss using my CGM.

Sharing this not to whine but b/c
it’s good 4 the general public to hear all kinds of lived experiences with all the diff types of diabetes.

Pump support tech Juan was super helpful & kind.

The replacement pump is due 2 arrive today. I appreciate Medtronic’s willingness to overnight the replacement.
This thread isn’t to laud Medtronic as perfect, of course.

My experience with them happens to have been largely good for 24 years.
But that’s not been everyone’s experience who has had Medtronic products. And I’m so sorry if that has happened to you, dear reader.
I also acknowledge my privilege in even having diabetes tech, of 24 years of it, and of being able to afford insulin at all.

Every person w/ any type of diabetes should be given access to what they need. And those needs vary from person to person.
Also grateful today for clean-ish water and water filters.

H2O is a crucial component in managing most types of diabetes. (Diabetes insipidus, which I don’t know a lot about, is a different critter altogether.)
Most important in all of this is the insulin. Without it, I die. Period.

That truth and my solidarity with all who use insulin in any form are why I support #Insulin4all

Hope, light, and love for all pwD
