A showdown would be if voting on the issue were placed on the agenda of an extraordinary Council meeting asap.

whatever they say or whatever agreement is forged in the COREPER, it has no binding effect for the @EUCouncil.
So don't expect that Budapest or Warsaw will honour any deal made at COREPER level. As a matter of fact, they are now just breaking the deal made at the July #EUCO.

However, a deadlock in the #COREPER may also serve as an excuse for @EU2020DE to reopen negotiations on the #RuleOfLaw deal. So we will see it on Monday whether the move is a step toward a potential showdown with &, or toward further concession for #EUAutocrats.
