While I really welcome yesterday’s announcement of £175 million for walking and cycling infrastructure. It’s a drop in the ocean compared to what we need.

Waltham Forests mini-Holland cost £30+ million. Which pays for all those essential elements that support modal shift - not just nice to have- bike storage, tree planting, pavement widening, public engagement and outreach. 2/4
After 10+ of austerity and cuts local authorities are struggling to deliver the scale of these schemes as we don’t have enough staff and officer capacity is stretched. The Tories have chronically underfunded local authorities this funding does not change that.

But the government do have the money - note £27.4 *BILLION* for roads!
So am I grateful for these crumbs? Yes because we are bloody starving, but we need a much bigger slice of the cake if we are really going to deliver the transformative infrastructure that the majority want 4/4
