anyways the reason twitch is the new target for DMCA claim bullshit is because the industry is losing the next generation's attention again and they're failing to adapt so they're just extorting platforms
and don't get the wrong idea: copyright is broken, it is not evil. independents need its foundation, but it needs to be reformed to work for us. over the past hundred years it has gradually been turned into a tool to monopolize culture. but like, you know this.
if you don't know what goes on behind the scenes at platforms like youtube and twitch when these genuine criminals come knocking, don't take a dump on the platform. we are all subject to this.
literally the most effective thing we can do right now is to continue to create a library of independent works that, while still under copyright, we allow to be shared between independents. you having a copyright doesn't mean you have to enforce it. it's a tool for punching up.
the old guard owns so much media that for the time being it's worth eating shit when we have to and otherwise creating new things that they don't have access to. stop signing your rights away to huge labels and publishers. always retain ownership.
the next target down the line is to attack things that are merely similar to other things - we're already seeing this, even. there is a stopping point, especially as younger people become increasingly savvy to musicology, media studies, etc, and can defend themselves.
just don't forget - this is happening because the industry is eating shit. true independents (no label, no parent, nothing) have been on the rise and they hate that shit. keep doing the thing.
