A new online service launched this wk and its already taking business from Amazon - and I'm really torn. Whilst I support its stance to support independent bookshops, those same bookshops often do little to support self published authors. i.e. They buy from traditional publishers
Some independent bookstores will of course stock your book if you're prepared to do the leg work and be a salesperson visiting highstreets around the country. But most will only get their stock from Gardners Wholesale, who in turn get theirs from Penguin, Harper Collins, etc
Websites like Amazon, Apple Books and B&N are the only place where authors can go if they've struggled to find an agent who can get them a traditional publishing deal. And with contracts like KDP Select, self publishing authors can even sell through places like Walmart.
But then there is a twist to this story...
If everyone starts buying all their mainstream, traditionally published fiction from independent bookstores, it must surely leave more room for self-published authors on Amazon right?
So who should I support...

Independent bookstore small guys, who don't sell my book...

Or Amazon, the bookstore behemoth, who does sell my book?
