2/5 The Pseudo #Somalia Nationalists prior to @M_Farmaajo made Somalis believe that #Somaliland was the antithesis to unity. The perspective was that ‘ #Somaliland had political Relationships with Ethiopia & Ethiopia was Anti-Somali’. Of course the SL hatred is far more nuanced
3/5 The swaying of extremities is reminiscent of when Somalia formed ties with Turkey & subsequently UAE/Saudi formed ties with Somaliland. All of the sudden being pro Somali meant being Pro Turkey & Anti-Saudi/UAE. Or more recently; Pro China & Anti Taiwan.
4/5 This polarization of a “Somali Perspective” has been effectively weaponized by Villa Somalia, politically & socially. We see this in the diaspora through social discourse, communal events like #SomaliWeek, and through the countless streams of Somali media.
5/5 Ethiopia has explicitly hinted at its integration plan through maps on Government Websites & @AbiyAhmedAli twitter account. Don’t be surprised in due time when The Pseudo nationalist will tell you that through HOA integration we finally achieve the dream of “Somaliweyn”
