As much as I’d love to see Bernie in a cabinet position (Sec. Labor!) I hope ppl understand that even if we manage to tie the senate by winning the GA runoffs and actually get Bernie confirmed, his vacant seat would be filled by republican gov Phil Scott—risking senate control. https://twitter.com/jackiembouvier/status/1326687017896452099
Same goes for Warren—Massachusetts also has a GOP governor too. Both of their votes will be needed if Biden has any hope of passing any even remotely progressive bills. This is why so many of us were disappointed about house losses and are pushing so hard for the GA runoffs 😔
I get being angry about the unlikelihood of cabinet positions going to progressive candidates who helped Biden get to the White House, but I think maybe some of it comes from not realizing how much our hands are gonna be tied with a narrow house majority and best-case tied senate
There’s only so much Biden is going to be able to do if he has to utilize executive orders—I think it would be naive to underestimate Mitch McConnell’s willingness to use a senate majority to overturn everything Biden signs, and with a now 6-3 SCOTUS.. our only chance is Georgia.
Anyway please get involved and donate if you can—I cannot stress how much is riding on these two runoff races (tbh it doesn’t feel like an exaggeration to say that democracy itself is on the line) and if you want to know more, I wrote a whole long ass thread about it here: https://twitter.com/heyjenbartel/status/1325443301554720770
