The reason you can't talk to a lefty/Dem from any faction is because nobody's theories got validated and nobody really got what they wanted. a small thread.
1) Warrenites like myself are disappointed that even if we do win both Senate runoffs in Georgia, the chances of ending the filibuster, adding DC/PR as states, etc. is extremely low with Manchin as the majority maker. Besides ending Trump, that was our main motivating factor.
Plus, the narrowness of Biden's win in the EC--like, 100K votes across a handful of states making the difference between winning and losing--lends itself to open question whether Warren could have won, given sexism in the electorate. We're not blind to that.
the "Establishment", for lack of a better word, was hoping for a full repudiation of Trump and maintaining our marginal Dem seats in the House. They didn't get that, and their automatic reflex is to blame the left, because it's what they do. But they're still unhappy.
The "extremely online left"--the Chapos, tankies, Marxists etc--were hoping for a Biden loss in order to prove that only a leftist could beat Trump. They didn't get that. Biden not only won, but got the most votes in American history in the process. Not good for them.
After all, they were counting on exploiting an "enthusiasm gap" that didn't materialize, and not only weren't part of a winning coalition, but showed their own irrelevance. The Libertarians were the third-party spoilers this go around.
Meanwhile, all of these factions are facing the daunting realization that Trumpism brought out an overwhelming number of marginal les-educated Republican voters, despite being a total failure and abandoning his economic populist message.
nobody has any answer to that whatsoever. moderation doesn't win them. economic populism won't lure them into adopting an entire slate of otherwise progressive positions. Biden's cultural affiliation was marginally useful at best. And they are overrepresented because of the EC.
so yeah, we won the presidency, kept the House, and won at least a seat in the Senate. But basically, we're glum because we realize that incompetent fascism won't dissuade non-college whites from anti-Dem negative partisanship, and might actually be a motivating factor.
so it basically feels like we're fighting off a zombie invasion and just now realized that we've all been fighting each other over what weapons work the best, when the truth is, none of them do. and we won the battle this time, but there is no cure. so that's where we're at.
