When Universities do "Indigenous cluster hires" why do they only do them for faculty when we are extremely under-represented in leadership and staff positions?
As noted by @MalindaSmith, What conversations are being had that create job descriptions, hiring committees, & engage consultants that only reproduce whiteness in leadership? Why are Black or Indigenous Sr. leaders only relegated to EDI, student services, & Indigenous positions?
Indigenizing and decolonizing the academy requires allyship and accomplices from other racialized peoples in campus. We must work together, in tandem, recognizing similarities and differences. @MalindaSmith
@SheilaCoteMeek notes Indigenous peoples unique connection to land & place & that EDI work can contain some of that work, but should not consume it. We need to pay attention to the opportunities and intersections. We cannot & should not be in competition with each other.
Thank you @Laurier @ProfWlkr hosting this important EDI dialogue on a Friday the 13th night! Over 150 attendees!
