Without getting into specifics, yes Iran has long been a traveling point for terrorists and groups (ratlines, in the biz). Many have used this to try to tie the Iranian regime to terrorist groups. Because much like NeoCons wanted war in Iraq, they also want Tehran back.
Given the replacements at most major national security positions this week, Iran is definitely part of those moves. This is easily one of the last chances those foaming at the mouth to foment conflict with Tehran will have. So you are seeing Flynn acolytes in influential spots.
Having served under him and having written and told a lot of folks about it, Flynn and his cronies desperately want a war with Iran. Had he not resigned, it would have already happened. So this is their shot.

I would put this up to 11 if I was them. But Iran is a key ratline because it sits so perfectly situated between the -Stans and the Middle East. It is the best and most efficient way to get around.

But I’m guessing that won’t happen. The temperature is about to go up and I doubt anyone in the Trump admin will mind handing off a spiraling Iran conflict to the Biden Team. It would hamstring them for years.

We also need to not see Iran as some Axis of Evil but rather a Westernizing population that will tire of a repressive regime in due time. The region is way too important to drive Iran further into the hands of its repressive rulers. With time and patience, it could happen.
