I'll bite and argue that we can do better comms than "abolish/defund the police". Probably best to attack it the way that the right did unions, by saying we have to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse, and then just fucking gut them completely
Given that cops are part of a right-wing patronage system, it's best not to come out and say "we're going to eliminate your patronage system" but instead "we're going to eliminate corruption". The former energizes the beneficiaries, the latter can actually make them disillusioned
Note that this worked well for the right with unions in places like Wisconsin: play up the worst, dirtiest, most corrupt pieces of the political machine and make people feel like the system is only benefitting its greediest, least moral players.
The right, generally speaking, has a much better understanding of how to attack divisions and pressure points on the left than vice versa.
But you really don't want to just say "we're going to rip your patronage system to shreds" out loud because that will remind people the system takes care of them. You want to engender cynicism about the patronage system in its marginal members first
