This mass exodus from bedside nursing will be of historical proportions. The initial waves have started but in the coming decade hospitals will become desperate. The Year Of The Nurse & Midwife has exhausted & demoralized far too many.
Nurses are retiring early, new nurses are burning out & leaving the bedside completely. Seasoned nurses are exhausted & frustrated, they’re leaving their hospitals to work as travelers because they don’t feel valued.
THIS DID NOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT.

A global pandemic with no contingency planning by hospital systems/state/national legislature coupled with a national shortage of PPE & add the already abhorrent staffing practices.
This truly could have been avoided if Nurses, CNAs & PCTs were valued more than profits. If we weren’t expected to donate money to our hospitals to keep them afloat. If we weren’t expected to be okay with our raises & benefits being cut.
If we weren’t expected to continue to work without proper PPE. If we weren’t expected to work while Covid positive. If we weren’t expected to be martyrs.
