The thing WWE is most terrified of wrestlers having is options. Options mean wrestlers can walk away. That gives you negotiating power. Negotiating power equals more money. It's not about Twitch money or podcast money or Cameo money, it's about limiting options.
Same with NXT UK. That was about crushing ITV's World of Sport in the cradle, not having some highly successful UK brand. It's why they're sacrificing a couple hundred thousand potential weekly NXT TV viewers by having it go head to head with AEW.
Which wrestlers generally make the most in WWE? The ones with options. Normally "options" meant MMA, Hollywood or being such a big star you could make big money in wrestling elsewhere. Twitch/Cameo/Onlyfans had the potential to give a whole tier of midcard wrestlers options.
