Feeling so sad today. The church that I love like family, is unable to respond with love & compassion to me being raped & abused by 2 priests, pushing me into increasingly desperate strategies to try to be heard & believed. I've even talked to a lawyer & I'm not that person.1-
Why is it so impossible for the CofE to have a safeguarding process that says to survivors: we believe you. We recognise the harm done to you. We're so sorry. We take responsibility. How can we put things right? 2-
We get: we can't say if we believe you. We don't believe you enough to do anything. It doesn't matter enough to hold anyone accountable. It was too long ago to be important now. Here, have some money & go & sort yourself out with a therapist 3-
How did safeguarding become about risks & secrets, not truth & justice? How did we create a safeguarding machine that excludes God & survivors? When did we start to contract out healing? When did we lose our compassionate, loving heart & our courage to do what is right?4-
And how do we restore God's love, compassion, grace, mercy - & survivors - into the centre of safeguarding? This is what GS needs to debate this month @JonathanRGibbs @debbiesellin @Bishopviv1 @churchofengland @GenSyn @survivingchurch @SewellMartin
