Rᴏʏᴀʟ Dᴏʀɴᴏᴄʜ GC
My review of Royal Dornoch is by far the longest I've written. Please do check out my Journal entry below for the full version
It's a very special place

A little over 300 yards - driver might feel like the obvious play, but can often cause more problems than it solves.
The green sets the tone for what is to come - a beautiful upturned saucer, bunkered on the front edge with closely mown run offs to the sides and rear.

The second challenges the sixth for my favourite par 3 on the course.
The local joke is the most difficult shot at Dornoch is your 2nd to the second. Only when you've missed this green can you fully appreciate this...

Four is a brute. A tauntingly narrow fairway with whins to the left - no bunkers required until you reach the green.
The string of them is perfectly angled to catch the short right or long left approach - and woe betide you if you run off the long right hand side...

Five could (could) well be my favourite short 4 in Scotland.
Stood on this tee, there are half a dozen clubs you could play - even on a still day. 5 bunkers await a lay up lacking commitment. Bunkers at 270 mean a driver must be well placed to the right...

The fifth green is amazing.
Best approached from the left half of the fairway. From the right, it's so narrow you'll do well to avoid the steep run off right or the pots to the left.
The mid-right hole location a sucker pin which, if not played conservatively, will get you.

The sixth is the start of the 'new' holes.
The green is tiny - 12 yards wide. Pot bunkers left and a precipitous drop to the right.

Eight involves a leap of faith from the tee.
A drive or long iron at the marker post on the horizon, and the hope you'll find your ball on the beautifully undulating fairway that cascades down the hill towards the beach.
One of few occasions when you play down to a green.

Twelve is a great par 5.
A gentle sweep to the left - the rough and terrain left must be avoided. From the right, you have a longer approach with bunkers focussing the mind on a layup.
If going for the green in 2, there is a mound in the ideal landing spot.

Thirteen - the 'easier' of the par 3s - is not very easy if you happen to miss it...
7 bunkers guard the surface, but this is one of few greens that collects towards the centre.

Foxy.
Along with the First @RLGCHoylake, one of the finest bunkerless par 4s in Britain.
The green is perched on last of a series of ridges, only ~5-7 foot high. Approach from the left or you'll struggle to hold this magnificent green.

Fifteen another intricate short 4.
The centreline mound can be navigated in any direction, none easy.
With the green tilted right to left, approaches from right or long of mound can see the pitch running away from you.
Short can be blind and left the narrowest fairway strip.

If that's not enough (and I expect it probably is!), the full report's on the Journal
Reviews of some of the others I've recently played already there, and more being added when WiFi from the van allows. https://sdcoopergolf.com/blogs/news/r%E1%B4%8F%CA%8F%E1%B4%80%CA%9F-d%E1%B4%8F%CA%80%C9%B4%E1%B4%8F%E1%B4%84%CA%9C-gc
