Back in June, I was so angry about one of the assessors’ reports I received for my #DiscoveryProjects21 proposal that I submitted a complaint about it; the first time I have ever done this. /1
The complaint starts: “This is an inappropriate report, which contains statements that indicate discrimination and bias.” /2
But my complaint was denied. So I really did not expect to get my proposal funded this round. I am writing this 🧵 to emphasize how important rejoinders are in the Australian grant system. /3
And, in the process of writing that very difficult rejoinder, I realized that I’d had to deal with biased assessors’ reports my whole career. /4
The reports are confidential so I can’t display all the ridiculous sentences from many of them, but I would love to bundle these together with all my rejoinders (for successful and unsuccessful grants) to hand over to the next generation... /5
