City Hall Bldg: We've seen that many staff can work from home if they wish > reduces space requirements. Designed by #LdnOnt architect Philip C Johnson who won 1952 silver Massey Medal in #Architecture (now GGâs Medals in Architecture) for innovative Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich. To my knowledge the ONLY area architect 2 receive Canadaâs highest honour in architecture.

He designed many bldgs across SW Ontario, specializing in houses of worship, building over 70 in his career, incl #LdnOnt: @orshalomlondon synagogue, Unitarian Fellowship hall (now Gibbons Park Montessori School), Church of the Transfiguration & St. Andrew the Apostle.

#LdnOnt City Hall has simple #Modernist elegance. Designed as two interconnecting parts: oval base of black granite, represents the people & elected officials in Council chambers & Mayorâs office; white marble tower reps & houses @CityofLdnOnt staff who serve the people. 4/
The steel & glass base on either wing of #LdnOnt City Hall is done in an elegant #InternationalStyle design. The colourful glazed brick has distinct Mid-century Modern colours at the base & rooftop patio level.

The lobby of #LdnOnt City Hall is white marble & black granite, the curved open staircase & the Council Chambers are still mostly original.
The interior was **designed to be open & flexible** with no columns blocking floor space except for central elevator/mechanical shaft. 6/

The Mayorâs office at #LdnOnt City Hall is lined with floor to ceiling rosewood panelling

The Council Chambers of #LdnOnt City Hall features white maple sound baffles on the side walls which are a signature detail of Mr. Johnsonâs & can also be seen at @OrShalomLondon synagogue and the Gibbons Park Montessori School. 8/
#LdnOnt City Hall is a significant civic bldg that should hold pride-of-place in our public imagination.
This heritage landmark can be adapted & continue to serve its intended purpose for decades to come. /
