ideological bubbles are a problem i assume. idk, apparently i'm a freak but i don't enjoy expending time reading stuff i am ideologically aligned with (i mean, i know what i think?)
BUT, in this age we do need discourse bubbles. places we can be open/honest https://twitter.com/conor64/status/1327348028756217857

e.g., the other day talking to junior prof friend i mention offhand prominent professor who is privately pretty based (known this person a while) but RTs a lot of social justice stuff. junior professor was frustrated
but there needs to be space where senior professor can be open

i've pretty much given up on the idea that we can argue ppl into being honest in public. preference falsification is the new norm and u just can assume a lot of ppl are bullshitting. since i'm a weirdo & open about my real beliefs i know what lots of fakers privately think
of course the total lack of honesty means no virtue, and no virtue means the res publica is probably not long for this world. but it might be a while until the lictors come with their lists, so let's make the best of it
