Things to keep in mind before applying for an internship:

1. Look up the organisation you are applying to. You must have a clear idea of what they do and what your potential job description might entail.

2. Do not apply for a job if the vacancy is for an internship.
3. Mention the department/designation you are applying for, clearly in the email.

4. The subject line should ideally contain the organisation's name and the department/designation you are applying for.
5. Express your intention and reason to apply in the email body copy. Keep it crisp.

6.1. For writers: Pick at least three links to your published works (if any) and add them to the body copy. Or type a sample and attach the Word doc.
6.2. For others: Find an equivalent to it. Drive links can work but it must not have all your works crammed in one folder. Select your best work according to the job profile and add it to the application. Check settings to allow everyone to have access to the said folder.
7. Mentioning the source via which/whom you came to know about the vacancy is a good idea.

8. You CV/resume must have your contact details and a basic idea of who are and what you have done so far. Do not go for anything fancy. A simple layout/template or Word doc works.
9. If you are asked to write a test, forget everything you were taught in college in regards to writing an exam. Take those concepts and use them to write the test as a professional. Put across your thoughts/strategies and not what the textbook said. It should reflect you.
10. In any part of the communication — verbal or written, it must not look like you have no idea what you are applying for. Read up on the organisation and look up the people who are likely to contact you. Use LinkedIn for background information.

Read up! Good luck!
