Met via Zoom with Jazz EVP Dennis Lindsey and GM Justin Zanik today to talk NBA Draft. Full recap to come, but for now, a few tidbits:
Lindsey said this draft had guards, wings & bigs that the Jazz like. Would not say if they were looking more at someone potentially able to play Day 1 or at a more “speculative”-type player. But there are “3 or 4 players, top of mind, that could help address a specific need.”
They did not reveal how many in-person workouts they have already attended “for competitive reasons,” but said they have saved a few of their 10 for potential last-minute looks.
In the range they’re picking, they said they often look for a unique trait, such as Rudy Gobert’s standing reach/length, Rodney Hood’s shooting in pick-and-roll situations. They said basketball IQ & open-mindedness are often tie-breakers when all else is close.
Lindsey said he believes this draft does have players who can help with his stated goal of adding guys who can defend w/o sacrificing spacing, and said that adding physicality would be the most obv way to go, but that everything is on the table; could go w/ an offensive player.
