Just got this in the mail, on a forgotten subject: the virtue of friendship & its relationship to politics. It was also treated by Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Aquinas, & many Islamic theologians & philosophers. In my view, virtue friendship is the alternative to liberalism. 1/7

Here is ibn Rushd on friendship, from his Middle Commentary on Aristotle’s Rhetoric. (Starting at the bottom of the page.) Many other Islamic scholars wrote on this such as Miskawayh, al-Ghazali etc. 3/7
