Having experienced "Scarecrow vrc" & "Dr.Crumbs school for disobediant pets" (through Raindance Immersive), I've been introduced to the wonders of live performance within vr & what it can actually offer to the audience. This is a thread of my thoughts & expectations: (continued)
We already have active roleplaying communities in vrchat where the story unfolds on stream for viewers to watch. However the 2 experiences I tried out takes this in a very different direction by involving you (the audience) no matter how inexperienced you are. (continued)
In "Dr.Crumbs School" , you're the "hero" with 3 friends as you play a full fledged game guided by actors who interact with you & are capable of improvising based on your actions & behaviour. This particular experience felt like being in a crash bandicoot game/cartoon (continued)
In "Scarecrow VRC", the actor performs around you & get you to participate with dance/art, as the world changes around you, all controlled by the actor. Both are different experiences but also have things in common that I think vrchat community can learn from. (continued)
Both feature live actors in place of characters/NPCs.
The actors also have control over the world, allowing them to trigger the next phase of the performance or adventure. Being in VR, the experience is around you & not just a camera for viewers to watch disconnected. (continued)
I was really impressed by both experiences and I would genuinely like to see more attempts like this in future and as Scarecrow has proved, it's completely doable in vrchat. Even, Dr. Crumbs is something that would work well in vrchat too. (continued)
Imagine a collaboration between world creators, avatar creators and roleplayers. We have plenty in vrchat already! Roleplayers could take on specific roles for players to interact with and have access to special avatars and controls that suit the story/experience. (continued)
In Dr.Crumbs, you fight a boss battle controlled by an Actor, worked surprisingly well. It all felt really dynamic throwing taunts back and forth at eachother. The actors can increase/decrease difficulty for the current activity based on player performance too. (continued)
It IS super demanding on actors though as its usually for a small group of people/audience at a time. But theres opportunities with this that can involve larger group of players/audience. Imagine a Medieval village full of actors like at themeparks & players can visit (continued)
The future is exciting & I can see more experiences like this slowly transitioning from real world venues to vr. There's so much more that you can do in VR since you're not tied down by real world logic. Curious to see if we'll see more attempt experiences like this in vrchat🙂
