Since it seems that many people can only make vague references to Joe Biden’s “mistakes,” and seem to lack a full understanding of his record, let’s take a look at some of the allegations and crimes of the President-elect. [THREAD]
1. Sexual assault: Tara Reade, a formed Biden staffer, recently accused Joe Biden of a sexual assault which occurred while she worked for him in 1992-93. The story was buried by mainstream media & he received endorsements from popular supporters of the #MeToo movement.
Biden has also been accused of inappropriately touching both women and girls, which is documented by many uncomfortable photos and videos that have surfaced on social media and youtube.
2. Support for the Iraq war: In 2002, Biden voted to authorize George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq. This devastating war led to the confirmed deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people (possibly more), displaced millions, & destroyed their land.
The absolute horror of this war cannot possibly be summed up into a few tweets, so I encourage you to take it upon yourself to read and review the consequences of this war. It is one of the most brutal and violent crimes in U.S. history.
3. Crime Bill: In ‘94, Biden authored a crime bill which imposed tougher prison sentences, provided $$$ to build more prisons, funded 100k more cops, & backed grant programs that encouraged police officers to carry out more drug-related arrests, which escalated the war on drugs.
As consciousness about incarceration shifts among the masses, we are reminded that both parties built and expanded the inhumane system that puts people in cages & separates families.
4. Cabinet Picks: Though many remain unconfirmed, Biden has been tossing around the names of a variety of conservative and democratic politicians to serve in his administration who have atrocious records in regards to various issues. This requires individual research.
I will say that he has now appointed Cecilia Muñoz to his transition team, a top immigration advisor under Obama, the president who deported more immigrants than any other & a woman who defended the mass deportation of children and the separation of children from their families.
5. Palestine: Joe Biden has a long and friendly relationship with Israel, who is responsible for one of the worst crimes against humanity in this era, the genocide and displacement of Palestinians. U.S.-Israel relations are likely to strengthen and help aid them in their crimes.
Again, this requires more research. And whatever you read, hear, or see will never truly capture the intensity and horrors of the ongoing violent occupation of Palestine by Israel.
6. Supported by large corporations and the rich: Biden has received a wide variety of support from billionaires, millionaires, large corporations, super PACs, and celebrities. If the ruling class is championing a politician, it’s likely this politician is NOT a threat to them.
We cannot “move candidates left” when they are bought off and funded by billion/million dollar corporations. They will serve the interests of the rich every chance they get. To continue to vote for them is to continue to enable and empower them to worsen OUR conditions.
7. LGBT+ issues: Joe Biden voted against same-sex marriage, in favor of the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy, another policy defining marriage as between a man and woman, and voted to cut off federal funding for schools that taught “acceptance of homosexuality as a lifestyle.”
Though it can be argued he has since changed his position, this is entirely reflective of how he only did so to appease the mass shift in acceptance of gay marriage, brought forth by the struggles in the streets by black & brown LGBT+ people of color.
8. Police: In the midst of a mass movement against police brutality & in favor of defunding the police, Joe Biden has expressed support for an additional $300 million in federal funding for the police. He has also repeatedly expressed support of the police and against protestors.
We KNOW more funding doesn’t work. The NYPD has a billion dollar budget and they are still one of the most notoriously racist and violent police institutions in the country. What we need is to defund them and fund education, housing, healthcare, food programs, etc.
9. Venezuela: Biden unequivocally supports the white, rich Venezuelan opposition & unelected Guaidó over the democratically elected president, Maduro. His language resembles a history of the U.S. weaponizing “democracy” to justify intervention motivated by financial interests.
Regardless of what you think or know about Venezuela, Maduro was democratically elected in internationally monitored and fair elections. His real sin, to the States and to Joe Biden, is trying to liberate his country from the strains of capitalism and imperialism.
10. China: Joe Biden himself has stated that he has a stronger stance on China than Trump, supporting increased aggression against them, escalating what people are predicting to be a new Cold War against China and communism/socialism.
Joe Biden also does not support medicare for all, the complete cancelation of student debt, and has refused to concede on any of the popular policies that were championed by working people during the 2020 election and existed on the Bernie Sanders platform.
This thread is now at capacity. But there are many, many other reasons why Joe Biden is not a candidate for the people. We must remain aware and militant during a Biden presidency. These are not “mistakes,” but intentional decisions with horrific consequences.
