My opinion on cholesterol is changing...

High, unoxidized cholesterol is probably not dangerous.

But the problem is that it's very easy to oxidize, especially with our disastrous modern environment.

High, healthy LDL can turn into high unhealthy LDL very fast
This means that a lipid profile that's very healthy can turn into one that's extremely atherogenic very fast.

How fast? And how sensitive LDL particles are? I don't know yet.

But what I do know is that the margin of safety on high LDL is quite low.
And I don't think the lipid triad alone captures this.

For instance, you can probably still have low TG and high HDL, even in an environment with somewhat high oxLDL -- but I've never seen a study on this.
Omega 6 oils are in almost everything.
We're bombarded with pro oxidants from every angle.

You're probably fine if you cut your n-6 and oxidant exposure close to 0, but that's a HUGE and almost impossible if...
The problem with one typical intervention to lower cholesterol -- increasing PUFA consumption -- is that it can increase the absolute # of oxidized LDL particles (while lowering total LDL).

This, in turn, will probably increase CVD risk a la the Sydney Heart Health study.
But if you can lower your LDL without increasing your oxLDL it is probably prudent and healthy to do so.

This is where the arguments against vegetables may fall apart...

Vegetables and fiber may not be "essential", but they may help you to safely lower LDL cholesterol
This may help to bridge the gap between the people who claim high, unoxidized cholesterol is healthy and those who claim you should try to lower it

The people who may have had high healthy cholesterol, probably developed high, unhealthy cholesterol after a lifetime of exposure
