In the 13 years I've been in theological studies, I've witnessed Southern Baptists argue/draw lines over reformed theology
speaking in tongues
women's roles in church
church governance/polity
multi-site churches
divorce/remarriage
women in society
cultural engagement
politics
...
During those same 13 years, I've also witnessed the perennial lament that baptisms are down and we are falling short of fulfilling the Great Commission.

And I can't help but wonder how connected those two observations are.

I love our theological tradition. And I love doctrine.
It is worth defending with clarity and conviction. But also with compassion.

When I hear about great moves of God, or read how He restored His people, it seems always to begin with them mourning their own sins, not throwing stones at someone else's faults.
However right the belief, however salient the point, however noble the goal, I can't imagine God blessing it if hinges on attacking each other.
[p.s. Shameless plug for my school: This is among the many reasons I'm thankful for @AdamGreenway's "big tent" approach to theological differences @SWBTS. Conviction and compassion are both valued here.]
